Why Join the PTA

PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association, a school-based organization with a mission to make the school a better place for children to learn. Parents of students work together with teachers to volunteer in classes, raise money for school supplies, and generally support the school's efforts.

The number-one reason to join your school PTA is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school.

With schools facing challenges like shrinking budgets and lack of educational equity, PTA is more important than ever.

The PTA provides programs on strengthening family-school partnerships, and free resources for members on issues and areas such as STEM and health & safety.

Be a part of a powerful association than can advocate on behalf of children and educators at the local, state and national levels.

Why should I join?

Regardless of what your exact interests are, you can be certain that your participation will be welcomed in the Wilburton parent-teacher organization.

What is PTA?

PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association, a school-based organization with a mission to make the school a better place for children to learn. Parents of students work together with teachers to volunteer in classes, raise money for school supplies, and generally support the school's efforts.

PTA is a partnership between parents, teachers, administration, and staff.

We all work together as a team to enrich our children's education and school experiences, and to unite our community.

We do this through coordinating family activities/events and raising funds to enhance our children's education.

Your involvement, no matter how big or small, is welcome and is the key to making Wilburton a family for all of us.

9 Reasons You Belong in the PTA

1. Have fun and meet new people! Show your passion while making new lifelong friends from across your community, state and country that share your commitment to children.

2. Get connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.

3. Witness improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution.

4. Create the village that helps to raise kids and strengthen schools and communities. PTA believes we can make every child’s potential a reality—but we need more believers. We need you.

5. Discover great resources. The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.

6. Amplify your voice. PTA trains parents to advocate for children by taking actions and building coalitions that make positive change. Through PTA, you are informed about what you can do to affect local, state and federal policies that most impact children, families and schools.

7. Speak up. Because PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions and more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.

8. Watch yourself grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences and personal confidence. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause.

9. Help your child succeed. PTA fosters parent involvement. Parent involvement has been proven by three decades of research to be the greatest predictor of student success.
